It's the only place I go to buy Chinese-styled bread in South Florida. Everything is baked freshly everyday and they run out quickly. For those who have a bit of a commute to North Miami Beach, you can call in and order your bread ahead of time. Just leave your name and pick-up time with the boss lady. The cakes for special occasions are also made Chinese-style with fresh fruit, taro, and pudding fillings of your choice. They are not overwhelmingly sweet like American cakes. Big things come in small hidden packages. I will drive the hour every weekend just to buy the coconut buns, or custard buns, or twisted custard bun, or ANYTHING they sell here. I have not had such excellent Chinese bakery goods since I lived in Boston and worked next to China Town. In fact, even living in LA it was hard to get this quality of bun. Apparently everything is made on site at this location. I discovered them when I had seen their prepackaged goods in several Chinese grocery stores all over south Florida. I thought to myself I must find the originator of these goods, expecting to find a big fancy well apportioned store... Not the case. This place is the definition of hole in the wall. And the gems they produce are like diamonds. Every bite of every bun was phenomenal. I purchased an extra dozen to. Take to my coworkers, because everyone I know must experience these. Please south Florida, stop by, blind yourself to the visual mess of a retail experience. Turn away to the fact that you might have to park on the sidewalk. Ignore the dirty sidewalk, the clouded glass storefront, the ancient displays. Because even with all that stacked against them, the products are presented cleanly, organized, and look perfect. Tha Yelp Daddy definitely give this place his seal of approval. Actually, this bakery should get 5 stars BUT they only take cash if you get anything under $10. And sometimes, I just want like 3 BBQ pork buns....so, points off for that! However, the service-fast and sweet. The Food-Amazingly good. The location-is cool, it's right next door to a row of Chinese restaurants. The parking-is kinda tricky so be careful. **Note: If you are looking for a quick taste of China for breakfast or brunch then this place needs to be on your list. So, check it out!-I ordered the BBQ pork buns, which are the best! The curry, bacon, onion and cheese buns are interesting! Their coconut Bums are really good, little on the doughy side but good. It's located in a strip mall near a couple of other Chinese restaurants and a liquor store at the corner. Parking can be a little tricky because of how the front of the strip mall lot is set up, it's very narrow.

Got my special order Taro Cake and I'm impressed. The ube cake was not super sweet just the good amount of sweetness. I love it! And I got some pastries as well - beef curry puff, like a wintermelon hopia, coffee cake, marble cake and coconut pandan cake. Its kinda far where I live but its worth the drive. They have tarts (custard being the most noteworthy), baos, and of course lots of cakes. Although mainly serving Chinese goods, they also try to cater to Americans in the area by selling more recognizable flavors of cake like coffee and chocolate. I think this bakery is necessary in the growing Chinese community population in North Miami Beach.

This is a Chinese Bakery. It's different than other bakeries. Probably the best in Miami. I've tried them all. Great Bao (buns) filled with pork, curry beef, coconut.... They supply many Chinese grocery stores. So for fresh goods, come here. They also do cakes. The products are a little less sweet than Latin or American bakeries. That's good. They understand moderation. It's in a sketchy area. But you can park right in front and there is always parking. You don't eat in. It's a take away place. This is the type of place Yelpers need to support. It's unique in Miami. We have plenty of Latin bakeries. We need more places like this that are different. So go.

This is the Chinese bakery basically for chinese people in this area and south. Even the grocery stores down in south miami where I live sell their pastries at their grocery store (ex: lucky supermarket). They sell a lot of different items and I always stop by this place and the chinese bbq place nearby (chinese people know the place I'm talking about) whenever I am in the area. My favorite thing they make is the creme cake (that swirly sponge cake with creme inside lol, I'm chinese, i don't care the name or the ingredients, as long as it taste good, i'll eat it lol). My brother loves of course the pork buns (asian boys love this stuff for breakfast or for snacks). Now, this isn't like a fancy chinese bakery like in hong kong or some area of the bay area or nyc but it has all the typical things you look for when going to a chinese bakery and I'm grateful to even a chinese bakery this good only a hour drive from my place. Oh, and girls, make sure to bring your brother, dad, hubby, or bf with you......not exactly the safest area for a girl to go alone :). Overall, great little chinese bakery.....please open one in south miami!!!!!!

My family has been a long time fan of Mary Ann Bakery. Whenever we visit our family in Miami, there is always a box full of goodies from here sitting on the dinning room table. Love it! Their buns are fresh and cakes are fluffy. The owners are friendly and hard working. They don't have a huge selection of baked goods but everything we've tried from here has always been delicious. The only thing that has changed over the years is that the meat filling in their curry buns is not as much. When in Miami, this Chinese bakery definitely hits the spot. Being a planner from Orlando, and not familiar with this area, I used Yelp to help me find a bakery that would provide a asian flavor cake (pandan) for my bride and groom. Ken, the owner, was such a pleasure to work with. The cake was delicious, he delivered earlier than scheduled, and was a very sweet person. I hope to work with the bakery again! Driving through the area and needing a morning bite, I found this hidden gem on Yelp. I turned around and went in not knowing what to expect but found awesome reviews and photos. Since the pickings are slim around here, I turned to Yelp to satisfy my craving and found Mary Ann Bakery House. Yes, the place can be hard to pick out if you're not looking for it. Like other reviews have stated, don't fret about the parking, just go to the back of the building and you'll see a lot with ample parking (at least there was on a Friday). The selection isn't huge, and the store is pretty tiny, but the baked goods are delicious! I missed the menu of everything they had to offer until I was leaving (on the counter and serves more as a special order guide, but is very helpful to see what they offer) and definitely would have gone home with some more goodies, but I was happy with my selections of a baked buns, chiffon cake, and egg custard tarts. This is by far one of the great places to stop for authentic Asian baked goods in Miami!

I was on my way to the beach in Miami and I drove past a small bakery. Wait.... a bakery with Chinese characters? U-TURN!! Yep, I made a u-turn and headed towards it. For some reason, I had a feeling it'd be authentic. As I parked, I see an Asian family come out with a cake. That's a good sign. Alright! Time for another random foodventure. It's a small bakery. Upon entering, I see the display in front of me. To left, there are some canned beverages. Nothing fancy in here, just simply pastries, buns, and cakes. The single-serving items are generally priced around $ 1.25-1.50 each. I ordered the dan tat (egg tart/egg custard tart) and a pineapple bun (polo bun). The dan tat was so good! It tasted so fresh, with that homemade quality. The egg custard filling seemed a bit lighter tasting to me, not overwhelmingly egg-flavored. Nice beautiful golden color, tasty custard. I usually don't like to eat more than one egg tart, but I probably could have eaten a few more of these. This one is a winner! The pineapple bun had a sugar topping on it. It doesn't actually have any pineapple in it but it is merely called that due to the topping on it being shaped like a pineapple. The pineapple bun here is straight up traditional style. The dough is sweet, no filling inside with a crunchy sweet topping. For two pastries, it costed me $2.25. I was very surprised with the quality of the pastries and thought the price was very reasonable. It's a small little place filled with authentic Chinese baked goods. Nice little spot to check out if you're in the area.

There was a recent article in the Atlantic that postulated that the best place to buy Asian food is at a strip mall of ethnic restaurants and nail salons, and the theory definitely held true in this case. The fancy-looking cake products behind the counter were all under $2, and most were $1. Great prices, and other customers appear to think so too, as there were four other groups of people who dropped in at the same time as me (around 1:45 pm). Definitely recommend stopping by here if you are looking for a snack. Bring cash, since the minimum purchase is $10 if you're using a credit card.

This place has the best pork buns or Cha Siu Bao in Miami. You can take them home and freeze them, they'll even put them in freezer bags for you. They are served hot out of the oven and you buy them in any quantity you want or by the dozen. They are very reasonably priced. It's also a Chinese bakery and they have a limited assortment of cakes and cookies. There is limited parking on the left side of the road next to the sidewalk (don't park on the sidewalk) and there is a parking lot in back.

I thought I reviewed this place. It's really more of a 3 1/2 but hey, limited bun selection in S FL. I'm going to review Maxim bakery next. I do like their cakes and a lot of other Asians do too. The fruit birthday cake, the taro is too Chinese and I don't care for. There's a chocolate version with strawberries that my non-Asian bf likes. It's not too ridiculously sweet. Perhaps once the actual cake part was a bit more stiff/harder than I would like but nothing unbearable. Some of their breads are better than others. I really like their coffee cakes. And of course because of the economy I am paying more and more for everything. It's definitely not China where you can get bread for 2 rmb (30 cents) but then again I hated being in China. =) And yes, there will definitely be times you're just biting into bread and not filling but the bread is fine. I also do believe this place is slightly cheaper than Maxim which helps if you're buying in bulk. The couple that own it are from Hong Kong and very nice. Order early enough (for cakes and if you don't want to drive down to Miami) and you can have your order shipped for free to a nearby Oriental market that they service. For me that's Chung Hing in PPines.

I was schooled in the art of Chinese buns in Chicago's Chinatown. There are a lot of bakeries, we only went to the best. Mary Ann is okay, not as good as the best in Chicago, but certainly the best I've had in S Florida. Whenever I get the craving, I drive the 45 minutes down there and pick up a dozen. They hold well in the fridge, and you can easily warm them up in the microwave. Well worth a visit.

Good affordable Chinese bakery with a friendly lady who is willing to share her recommendations when asked. Everything was between $1 and $1.50. The stuff here tastes more fresh in the morning than in the afternoon, like in any bakeries. So the earlier you come, the better. Recommended: - char siu buns (BBQ pork buns) - custard tart (eggy custard and with a crumbly crust but tasty) - sugar topping & coconut bun (store lady's recommendation) Okay: - bacon, onion and cheese bun (cheese could be a bit better but I got this in the afternoon) - sautéed pork roll (good, but the dough used for the buns are taster than the flakey rolls that's more reminiscence of the Haitian pastries) - hot dog bun (sausage could be better, and maybe cheese could be added but the bun was good - reminded me of the kolaches of Texas) No go: - curry beef bun I would come back as I'm curious to try some of their other items.

They are served hot out of the oven and you buy them in any quantity you want or by the dozen. They are very reasonably priced. It's also a Chinese bakery and they have a limited assortment of cakes and cookies. There is limited parking on the left side of the road next to the sidewalk (don't park on the sidewalk) and there is a parking lot in back.

Wait, an Asian bakery in Miami? Where have you been all this time? Probably more like 3.5 stars, but they get rounded up for lack of competition. I have only tried the red bean cake and almond cookies here, both were more than acceptable when you consider your in Miami, not Flushing Queens, but I'll follow up when I try the buns.

The Cha Siu Bao here is very good. Bigger than most places I've had in Miami.

I thought I reviewed this place. It's really more of a 3 1/2 but hey, limited bun selection in S FL. I'm going to review Maxim bakery next. I do like their cakes and a lot of other Asians do too. The fruit birthday cake, the taro is too Chinese and I don't care for. There's a chocolate version with strawberries that my non-Asian bf likes. It's not too ridiculously sweet. Perhaps once the actual cake part was a bit more stiff/harder than I would like but nothing unbearable. Some of their breads are better than others. I really like their coffee cakes. And of course because of the economy I am paying more and more for everything. It's definitely not China where you can get bread for 2 rmb (30 cents) but then again I hated being in China. =) And yes, there will definitely be times you're just biting into bread and not filling but the bread is fine. I also do believe this place is slightly cheaper than Maxim which helps if you're buying in bulk. The couple that own it are from Hong Kong and very nice. Order early enough (for cakes and if you don't want to drive down to Miami) and you can have your order shipped for free to a nearby Oriental market that they service. For me that's Chung Hing in PPines.

I was schooled in the art of Chinese buns in Chicago's Chinatown. There are a lot of bakeries, we only went to the best. Mary Ann is okay, not as good as the best in Chicago, but certainly the best I've had in S Florida. Whenever I get the craving, I drive the 45 minutes down there and pick up a dozen. They hold well in the fridge, and you can easily warm them up in the microwave. Well worth a visit.
